I am a 4th year bioengineering:biotechnology major from sixth college. I am taking a year off after graduation in june to work in research. I plan on going to neuroscience graduate school or global health engineering (hopefully!)
I was born in England, moved to Florida when I was 9, and am now studying here at UCSD. My parents are from India and I go back every 2 years.
I am taking this particular class because of my own senior project for bioengineering supervised by engineering world health. It is a medicine cold box that runs on human-generated power instead of electricity like a standard refrigerator. This is essentially necessary because of the frequency of electrical blackouts in developing nations.
Our prototype had a budget requirement if $150.

My interests are in the south-east asian region because of my family heritage.. I love indian

culture, art and humanism. I think eastern philosophy and values are so amazing, so to help it out without infringing on its beliefs is a task that everyone should take. I am president of a south asian journal that prints about social, economic, and political issues on campus. so i love finding new things to inform others. I used to be an art student, so alot of my designs are aesthetic (maybe at the expense of function). I love photography and sketching and planning events. I'm hosting a south asian art show at the UCSD gallery in April (Come check it out!!!)

For this class my interests lie in healthcare and healthy living. There is so much potential for mobile/ remote medicine and inventions for preventative care.
There's a really innovative invention from awarepoint:
mobile medicineDevelopment to me starts with the ability to meet essential needs. (Maslowe's heirarchy- which i never thought i'duse past psyc 1). For the first assignment my focus is on biosentinel crops which is basically the less controversial version of g

eneticallymodified food.
