Sheila Doshi
This project interests me because it seems to integrate what I am studying at UCSD with some of the other things I care about outside of classes and lectures. I consider myself an economist and political scientist, but I am also interested in the social aspects of a society, affected by political and other economic factors. Also, I am a 1st generation Indian woman, whose parents are from Maharashtra, and I identify strongly with the struggling economic and social climate in Mumbai.
Some other things that interest me specifically in relation to this class are mobile phone technologies. They can be such diverse instruments that can help people in developing countries from anything from contacting someone because of an emergency or checking fishing conditions in a remote village to help someone with their business.
I am also very interested in bio fuels and alternative sources of energy. I have seen the inefficient and lack of the use of energy in India, and if we are developing technologies for these countries we need to first fix one of the major setbacks in order to make these technologies work sufficiently.
Some issue regions I am interested in is India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Sudan.

I really hope that with my economics and poli sci background I can help develop a cost effective and efficient way to develop these alternative energies plans. Also, political and social barriers will be a challenge when making these plans and prototypes. I want to help figure out if these new technologies are economically feasible while also making sure that these technologies will be socially and politically acceptible in these issue areas and nations.
A little bit about me:
I love being outdoors (cycling, swimming, trying to surf, disc golf). I also enjoy foose ball, pool, good conversations, of course, accompanied by good beer. I'm graduating in June, and have no idea what I'm doing after!
