In early feburary I am going to Goa to help a new beach hotel develop strategies for a sustainable operation.

I was exploring the idea of converting containers into hotel rooms. Maybe use 2 of them stacked upon one another or the like to make one room. What other ideas have you guys explored for a beach resort. I also like the idea of making rooms of bamboo..

kristenshimatsu Packaging made of...leaves? 0 Feb 19 2008, 3:40 AM EST by kristenshimatsu

I still want to go on this idea! I remember watching/reading something about "what if our packaging was made of leaves" and really...what if?? It would cut down on waste so much! I guess we would have to look at the sanitation and how long you could preserve various products/foods in leaves, but it seems like a good alternative to mounds of plastic and styrafoam.

I'm also concerned about waste processing...what do you do with human waste (toilet water, shower water, etc.)? I didn't think about it until afterwards, but when I stayed on an island in Malaysia, it was such an isolated shack that they just dumped it back into the water or somewhere in the jungle! Also, they would just take their trash and burn it somewhere nearby. Pretty disgusting when we tried to go for a fresh nature's hike!
