Anticorruption LineThis is a featured page

Corruption is an endemic problem in the developing world, leaving many citizens powerless to defend themselves. Many governments actively seek to end corruption, but doing so has proved difficult. This simple system is a hotline that mobile phone users can call if they are concerned with being subjected to corruption by government.

How it Works:

The user calls a hotline, which has been advertised, possibly via SMS. The hotline answers the phone saying “This is the anti-corruption line. For advice on dealing with corrupt government officials, please press 1. If you are about to be subject to corrupt activities, push 2 to begin recording for a maximum of 5 minutes. Placing your phone on speaker will increase the quality of the recording. Please call back after the transaction to follow up. “ When the user pushes 2, the phone starts recording. This information can be used as evidence to prosecute corrupt government officials.

This project has a precedence in the “Anti-Terror Hotline,” by Natalie Jeremijenko.
